Funding Box: The Latest Startup News (May 1)

The Funding Box provides information on venture capital/private equity and startup fundings. Here's a list of top startup funding stories.

Kiana Analytics, a location-based marketing platform, has raised more than $1 million in venture financing from investors Plug and Play Ventures, Sand Hill Angels, Hawaii Angels, and several individuals.

Circle, a Boston-based digital currency startup, has raised $50 million in funding . The founding round was co-led by Goldman Sachs and IDG Capital Partners, with some participation from existing investors Breyer Capital, General Catalyst Partners, Accel Partners, Oak Investment Partners, Fenway Summer, Digital Currency Group and Pantera Capital.

Lunaphore, a Swiss-based med-tech startup developing early-stage technology for tissue diagnostics, has raised a CHF 2 Million Series A funding from Redalphine Ventures Partners, with some participation from private investors from Switzerland and UK.

MX, a Utah-based financial tech provider, has raised $30 million in Series A financing round. The funding was led by USAA , with some participation from Digital Garage and others. 

Bebaio, a Boston-based software startup targeting the Internet of Things market, has closed an initial venture funding round  of $1 million. Investors were not disclosed., an Indian-based jobs marketplace, has raised $10 million investment from SEEK Limited. This is's second round of venture funding, in 2012 it raised its Series A round led by Gray Ghost Ventures and Khosla Impact.

Smartvue Corporation, a Nashville-based cloud surveillance and Internet of Things video technology firm, has raised $15 million in venture financing. Investors included funds managed by affiliates of Fortress Investment Group LLC.

Flybits, a Palo Alto and Toronto-based platform that enables the creation of highly-personaLized mobile experiences, has raised $4.7 million in the second closing of its Series A funding round. Investors include Vodafone Ventures, which joined previous Series A investors Robert Bosch Venture Capital and Trellis Capital.

San Diego-based Celula, Inc., a diagnostic testing company, has closed a $10 million senior secured term loan, Oxford Finance provided  the investment.

Mirna Therapeutics, an Austin-based clinical-stage biopharmaceutical and immuno-oncology company that focused on the development of microRNA-based cancer therapeutics, has raised a $41 million Series D financing. Investors include Baxter Ventures, with participation from Eastern Capital, Sante Ventures, Morningside Ventures, Rock Springs Capital and Celgene Corporation and existing investors New Enterprise Associates, Pfizer Ventures, Osage University Partners, Correlation Ventures and Sofinnova Ventures.   

SwitchedOn, a Singapore and US-based team communication startup, has raised $300 K in funding from 14 angel investors, which include Christian Bernasconi who runs B&I Capital and Timothy Thompson of Vicour Holdings.

New York-based TripleMint, a real estate brokerage firm, has raised $1.65 million in seed funding investors Dominion Capital, Winklevoss Capital, Entrepreneurs Roundtable Accelerator (ERA), Kima Ventures, Archangel Ventures, super-angel Fabrice Grinda, Tom Falus and Mike Albanese.
