Axis Communications, the global leader in network cameras and other IP networking solutions, has acquired Citilog, a provider of intelligent real-time video monitoring for traffic and transportation security and safety. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Headquartered in Paris, France, Citilog is a leader in providing video-based monitoring and surveillance products to the transportation market. Citilog offers a suite of video analytics tools and sensors for transportation monitoring, such as automatic incident detection, traffic data collection and intersection control. It offers intelligent transportation solutions that enable a smarter, safer journey for millions of drivers around the world.

Citilog was the first company to introduce Automatic Incident Detection (AID) systems, which provide a safer environment in hundreds of tunnels and bridges around the world. Citilog employs 30 employees and has offices in USA, HongKong and Spain. Citilog’s systems have been deployed at some of the world’s best known landmarks: the Lincoln and Holland Tunnels in New York; Lupu, NanPu and Yanpu bridges in China; M30 tunnels in Madrid, Spain; the Mont-Blanc tunnel spanning France and over 900 other locations.

The deal will strengthen Axis’ best-of-breed solution and further expands its opportunities in the fast-growing traffic analytics market.

The two companies have worked together for several years on both engineering and sales to provide integrated solutions to a number of mutual customers.

Ray Mauritsson, CEO at Axissaid in a statement:
Citilog’s proven products are well known to the traffic sector, and complement our solutions for the most demanding requirements in that market. Their commitment to developing quality, innovative and easy-to-use products is consistent with Axis’ approach to provide the most competitive, highest value solution for a range of customer needs,” and also added this: “We are excited to be able to offer our channel partners and end users state-of-the-art analytics tools that work with their existing Axis network video solutions.”
