IDC: Big Data and Cognitive Systems Conference 2016 Explores the Next Frontier for Innovation, Competition, and Productivity

MANILA, November 16, 2016 — According to IDC, organizations that capitalize and analyze all relevant data and deliver actionable information could achieve an extra $430 billion (on a worldwide basis) in productivity benefits over their less analytically oriented peers by 2020. On November 17, 2016, the Philippine leg of the IDC Asia/Pacific Big Data and Cognitive Systems Conference 2016 will highlight the next frontier for innovation, competition and productivity form at the Makati Shangri-La Hotel.

"The measure of information in our reality has been blasting, and investigating substantial information sets - supposed enormous information will turn into a key premise of competition, supporting new influxes of efficiency development, advancement, and customer surplus," says Chwee Kan Chua, Associate Vice President, Big Data & Analytics and Cognitive Computing, IDC Asia/Pacific.

Leaders in every sector as well as some of the data-oriented managers, need to grapple with the implications of Big Data. The increasing volume and detail of information captured by enterprises, the rise of multimedia, social media, and the Internet of Things (IoT) will fuel exponential growth in data for the foreseeable future.

"As more things and people connect, vast amounts of data will be generated, creating opportunities to learn about customers, streamline business processes, flatten organizational structures, and transform industries,” says Jubert Daniel Alberto, Country Head, IDC Philippines. “To be competitive, organizations also need to be able to "know" everything, understanding this deluge of data and put it into the context of the business. This requires a clear vision of the strategic goals of Big Data and Analytics (BDA), the right investments in powerful new technologies, and a cultural shift toward analytically oriented decisions and processes.”

IDC predicts that BDA technology investments will increase across Asia/Pacific at 34% year over year (YoY) in the next few years. This rapid growth in investment is creating a divide between the organizations that "know" and the ones that do not.

Another dimension that we are entering is a new period of computing history — the Cognitive Computing era. IDC predicts by 2020, 50% of all business analytics software will incorporate prescriptive analytics built into cognitive systems functionality.

"Cognitive Systems offer fundamental differences in how systems are built and interact with humans. Cognitive-based systems are able to build knowledge and learn, understand natural language, and interact more naturally with human beings than traditional systems," says Alon Anthony Rejano, Associate Market Analyst, IT Services research, IDC Philippines.

"Cognitive Systems can quickly identify new patterns and insights. Over time, they will simulate even more closely how the brain actually works. In doing so, they could help us solve the world’s most perplexing problems by penetrating the complexity of Big Data and exploiting the power of natural language processing and machine learning," Rejano adds.

During this BDA and Cognitive Systems event series, IDC and its partners will attempt to "demystify" these two interlinked and converging markets by exploring the consumer, government, and enterprise solutions that will drive the industry forward. We will also examine the impact these solutions are having on traditional business and operating models. The BDA and Cognitive Systems event series are being held in the following Asian countries: Singapore, Philippines, Taiwan, and Malaysia.
